The Canberra Liberals have today amended a Government Bill to ensure greater transparency on the output of renewable energy farms in the ACT.

Recently we identified that ACT public power generators were not required to publish how much power they were contributing to the power grid.

When the Electricity Feed-in Tariff Schemes Legislation Amendment Bill 2015 was brought to the Assembly by the Government, as Shadow Minister for Environment I took the opportunity to suggest an amendment to this Bill, making it compulsory for the Minister to publish the output data of all renewable power generators in the ACT.

The Government has supported this amendment, and it is now law that any current or future renewable power generator in Canberra must tell the public what their output is.

The Canberra Liberals are pleased to have been able to ensure transparency regarding output of renewable energy plants, which often receive large public subsidies. We believe Canberrans should have the right to see the outcomes from the projects on which their tax dollars are spent.
