Media Release Thursday 7 August 2014

Shadow Minister for the Environment Nicole Lawder was pleased to be able to force the government into being transparent about the former Koppers Logs site in Hume.

"Residents and horse owners near the former Koppers Logs site in Hume had justifiable concerns about the contamination on this site," Ms Lawder said today.

"The chemicals in question have the potential to be very dangerous and have adverse impacts on human and animal health so it was vital that we forced the government to have this independent report completed.

"With the previous failings of the government in this area we could not be too careful. Residents spoke loud and clear about their concerns, and without raising this issue in the Assembly back in April the government would not have taken the time to fully check this issue.

"Residents can now have peace of mind that the chemicals on this site are contained," Ms Lawder concluded.
